Claire worked in a variety of practice settings including acute care, day rehabilitation clinic, outpatient clinic, home health, nursing home, early intervention and school systems. She has been in school-based practice, providing therapy services to students in schools surrounding the Richmond area, since 2002 and has been privately contracting services since 2005.
Claire has experience with Medicaid, educational technology, recruiting and staffing school divisions with professional therapists. She strives to maintain strong working relationships with special education directors through regular and open communication. She understands budgets in school divisions and strives to create a cost effective plan of service delivery for the counties we serve.
As a service provider, Claire has certification or advanced training in the following areas/programs: Sensory Integration and Praxis Test (SIPT), Therapeutic Listening ®, Talk Tools ®, Debra Beckman Oral Motor Protocol, Brain Gym ®, Handwriting Without Tears®, Move to Learn™, The Alert Program®, Registered Yoga Teacher 200 (RYT) . She has experience and continuing education in autism, integrating vision therapy and OT, and managing strategies for motor impairments in children with neuromuscular conditions. In addition, she attends annual Virginia Occupational Therapy Association School Symposium and Virginia Department of Education Lead OT/PT and Medicaid trainings.
Claire enjoys teaching and has supervised occupational therapy fieldwork students in the school setting and provided teacher in-service trainings throughout her tenure. Claire loves working with the students, teachers and administrators in the counties we serve, and feels very fortunate to work alongside such wonderful therapists and in a career she truly loves.
As an occupational therapy practitioner in the school system, Claire loves the opportunity to use her specific expertise to address student needs. With the ultimate goal being full participation in the educational environment, she enjoys observing students and providing strategies to facilitate engagement in school-related activities. It is rewarding to work with teachers and other team members to support student success by developing instructional strategies for ongoing implementation in the classroom.
Outside of work, Claire enjoys walking, swimming, yoga, dining out with friends, cooking, volunteering and spending time with her family. Since 2014, Claire has volunteered on Sundays as a Catechist, serving children ages 3-6 and 6-9, at her local church. Throughout the summer months, for a handful of years, she served as co-director of her neighborhood swim team. She lives in Midlothian with her husband, vice president of Richmond Primoid, Inc., and their two teenage children.
